The Megaloop FX is our latest active loop amplifier from 9kHz to max. 180MHz range. It combines all the outstanding features of the MegaLoop hits ML 200 and ML 052. Thanks to the integrated selectable FM band stop filter and three-stage amplification, maximum flexibility is possible for all types of use.
Flexible scope of application

This broadband magnetic strip antenna is especially suitable for places with difficult reception due to electrical interference (electronic field) in the near field area, it is also made for indoor or balcony/patio use. You can place it in the attic, at the window, on the balcony, in the carport attached to the wall or permanently attached to a tree.
Flexible stop filter for FM band

Based on the proven MegaLoop platform, an additional low-pass filter and an FM band stop filter have been integrated and can be activated or deactivated with a jumper. In case of FM interference, the FM bandpass filter can be activated with a jumper and thus FM signals between 88 MHz and 108 MHz will be attenuated by 25 - 40 dB.
Flexible three-stage amplification

The gain of the MegaLoop FX can be adjusted in three steps by an internal jumper (High / Medium / Low)
Frequency response (-3dB) and nominal amplification.

a) FM band stop
1. High gain: 9 kHz - 110 MHz and 25 dB gain
2. Average gain: 9 kHz - 150 MHz and 20 dB gain
3. Low gain: 9 kHz - 180 MHz and 15 dB gain

b) FM band stop active:
1. High gain: 9 kHz - 52 MHz and 25 db gain
2. Average gain: 9 kHz - 60 MHz and 20 dB gain
3. Low gain 9 kHz - 66 MHz and 15 dB gain

Flexible ring size

MegaLoop FX makes the most diverse radiant elements possible. A PVC-coated, seawater-resistant (V4A) flexible stainless steel wire ring is available as standard. It comes as a 5 m (16.40 ft) circumference ring for indoor, portable and outdoor use. Other lengths, such as 10 m (32.81 ft), are on offer. Lengths of up to 20 m (65.62 ft) have also been successfully tested.

In addition, a rigid aluminum ring with a diameter of 40cm or 80cm is also available. Thanks to its versatility and amplification adjustment, there will always be an ideal combination of circuit size and amplification.
Excellent IP values with power supply starting from 5 V.

With two signals in the 7 MHz range, an excellent IP3 value of typ. +40 dB and an IP 2 value of +85 dBm are achieved with just 5 V (max. 40mA) and therefore the loop can be powered via USB or power bank. A DualPower power supply (bias tee) is included in the standard delivery.

MegaLoop can be run by two different types of power sources. It can be powered via a conventional power supply (5.5/2.1mm round plug) or via USB. Power supply via USB has the advantage that no external power supply is required and that the antenna can operate independently and noiselessly with a separate USB PowerBank. The supply voltage range is 5 - 15 V DC (40 mA max) and therefore the antenna is also suitable for portable use.
Integrated triple protection of active parts

Coarse protection by gas arrester with trigger voltage 60 V and max. pulse leakage current of 1 kA (8 / 20µs) and integrated double protection of max. 2 kV and 8 kV respectively. Furthermore, the ring connections are grounded with high impedance to avoid static charges.

Tip: With two suction cups you can attach the MegaLoop antenna to a window at home, in a hotel or while travelling. Thanks to its flexible ring, transportation is really a breeze. In our truly portable "Design of a SDR Part 2" editorial test, I simply put the loop on the tailgate of our Caddy and was able to receive signals wonderfully.
